Every story begins somewhere. This is mine.
This page is about the journey that shaped my advocacy. It's the story of how lived experience became purpose, and why I believe every child deserves to be seen earlier, supported sooner, and given the opportunity to thrive.
Hi, I'm Rosemary NDEKWU.
I didn't grow up knowing I was dyslexic.
Like many dyslexic adults, I spent years believing that the struggles I experienced meant I wasn't trying hard enough or wasn't capable enough. I learned to adapt, work around challenges, and keep moving forward, but I didn't know why learning often felt different for me.
After more than 50 years, an assessment confirmed that I am dyslexic.
Accepting that I am dyslexic did not remove the challenges. It reduced the self-judgment that came with them.
It also helped me make sense of many experiences and changed the way I navigated the world around me.
Of course, I wish I had known sooner. But I'm also grateful for the journey because, if I had learned this decades earlier, I might not have the story I'm able to share today.
That story is why I created Created to Stand Out.
I want children to learn what took me more than 50 years to learn. I want parents to recognize when their child may have a learning difference that hasn't yet been recognized. I want teachers to recognize those differences early. And I want adults who have spent years asking the same questions I did to discover that they are not alone.
This website is more than my story.
It's a place to learn about dyslexia, explore practical resources, and share what I'm learning along the way. My hope is that it helps someone make sense of their own journey a little sooner.

My goal is to help children, parents, teachers, and adults move beyond awareness by sharing lived experience, practical guidance, and pathways to support.
